What it measures

Checks your pantothenic acid, also called vitamin B5. It helps your body turn food into energy and make fats.

Why it matters for women

Vitamin B5 is in almost every food, so low levels may be rare, and there’s no established women-specific reason to test it. It can round out a broader nutrient check if your diet is very limited or a health condition affects how you absorb food.

You might check it if…

  • you eat a very limited diet
  • a gut condition affects how you absorb food
  • you want a broad look at your B vitamins

What your result may mean

High Vitamin B5: what it may mean

High B5 may mean supplement use, including B-complex vitamins and blends sold for hair or skin. Toxicity may be rare, though very large amounts can cause diarrhea. Vitamin B5 is in almost every food, but diet alone may not push the level high. Extra B5 can leave the body in urine, so a high value may not be a concern on its own. There's no established women-specific reason to test it, so a high value may only point to your supplement routine.

Low Vitamin B5: what it may mean

Low B5 may be uncommon, because pantothenic acid can be found in almost every food. Severe deficiency can contribute to tiredness, and it can also bring numb or burning feet, headaches, irritability or poor sleep. It can happen with severe malnutrition, heavy alcohol use, or a health condition that limits how you absorb food. There's no established women-specific reason to test it, but a clinician may look at your whole diet and other B vitamins, since low B5 can appear alongside them.
